Sapphire

Historically, Sri Lanka is where the first sapphire mines originated in the 2nd century AD. Before 1975, Sri Lanka was known as Ceylon.

Sri Lanka has always been a historical hub for international gemstone trading and this traces back to the 4th century AD.

Sri Lanka is the oldest known source of mined Sapphire in the world and at the same time it is the most productive source.

Ceylon Sapphires tend to have a lighter and brighter blue than Sapphires from neighboring regions.

This sets Ceylon Sapphire as the global standard for Sapphires just below Kashmir Sapphire, Ceylon Sapphires can sell as high as 10's of thousands of dollars per carat and always make a worthwhile investment.

When purchasing a Ceylon Sapphire always make sure that it is certified by Gubelin or SSEF to assure the highest quality colored stone laboratory testing.

Kashmir Sapphires were first discovered after a landslide in the 19th century in the Kashmir region.  Kashmir Sapphires are the most sought after Sapphires in the world due to their extreme rarity and amazing texture and color.

The Maharaja of Kashmir had purchased this mine and mined out the entire deposit in just a 5 year span.  By 1887, these stones were depleted. Small deposits sprang up time and again, but with nothing significant.

This means that the large majority of Kashmir Sapphires available in the market are from the late 19th century. Making them the most rare Sapphires in the world.

Kashmir Sapphires can sell at prices of 150 thousand per carat or more.

Known for their intense lustre and unbeatable silky velvety look, these Sapphires are truly worth the investment.

When purchasing a Kashmir Sapphire always make sure that it is certified by Gubelin or SSEF to assure the highest quality colored stone laboratory testing.
